TROUT FISHING
Trout fishing in New Zealand is the best in the world with multitudes of
major rivers, streams and spring fed creeks producing trophy fish. From the wilderness back country rivers to the meanderings
across endless farmland, there is something for every fly and lure fisherman. Most rivers
support populations of wild brown trout with many rivers and lakes supporting rainbow trout. The trout fishing
is exciting and exhilarating with most being spotted in crystal clear water before being presented with the right fly. Some areas are only accessible by walking and are 3-4 days walk in.
That’s why we suggest a transfer helicopter to maximise the fishing. But if time is not a restraint then we are happy
to walk you into the best trout fishing in the world.
"New Zealand's trout are totally
wild. Casting and presentation of the fly are therefore of extreme importance. So too are perseverance, patience and the ability
to observe and analyse. In some rivers there is a trout every 10 or 20 metres, in others you may have to walk a kilometre
or more. It's always worth consulting the locals to find the best spots along rivers. The trout season normally runs from
early October through to the end of April, although regulations can differ from region to region. Depending on conditions,
some rivers and lakes are open to anglers all year, but local guides will be aware of the fishing regulations for their region."
SALMON FISHING
Salmon fishing in New Zealand is based mainly on the South Island east
coast Rivers. The Rakaia is considered to be the best Salmon River in New Zealand. So a day or two pursuing these trophy fish
is worth considering as part of your fishing or hunting trip. The season runs from January to mid April and the peak on the
Rakaia is during February and March.
SALT WATER FISHING
"New Zealand, is an anglers paradise, legendary
American writer Zane Grey put it on the big-game fishing map after a visit in the 1920's. New Zealand saltwater fishing
catches vary by location, from tuna and shark around Fiordland, to snapper and deep sea cod throughout waters of both the
North and South Island"
Saltwater fishing
in New Zealand may be good in the winter when still, sunny days follow a crisp frost at first light, but light tackle saltwater
fishing in New Zealand is usually at its best in summer and autumn. This is when warmer water and a profusion of bait fish entice
feeding schools of larger fish inshore. There are no closed season restrictions for New Zealand saltwater fishing and no licence
is required.
We can take you saltwater fishing for the day in the bays and estuaries so we can serve up your
catch in the evening or if you hanker for the thrill of deep sea game fishing we can tailor a sea fishing package that will
